September 24 4wd Modifications...Panhard RodSince the suspension lift, there has been a geometry issue with the rear end on full flex. This was only evident on the travel ramp, where the rear passenger side wheel was touching the chasis on full flex. I entrusted the help of Rod @ VRMM 4x4 (0438 455 242) to install the fully adjustable Panhard Rod to realign the rear end. Too easy...ordered over the internet and had the product within 2 days. A six pack later the Panhard Rod is installed and the rear end is in alignment. Upon closer inspection the front is slighty out of alignment, however nothing to be concerned about just yet, a few extra dollars and it can be easily fixed. The best part is that the panhard rod is adjustable, therefore with any future suspension changes we can have good alignment in the rear. September 13 4wd modifications...SuspensionThe last three weeks have seen me frantically begin the modifications to the mighty CRUISER, an 80 series toyota landcruiser (specifications to follow in due course).
There is nothing better than having a good mate as a mechanic when you want to modify a 4wd on a budget. First things first, the plug, Rod Nihill of Valley Region Mobile Mechanics (0438 455 242). Take note that when you are talking "mates rates" you may not pay for the labour but the beer was being replenished by the missus at an alarming rate. How slabs in three weeks, I hear you ask, lets keep that quite for the moment.
Well the cruiser has been raised 3inches courtesy of heavy duty kings and long travel old man emus. She rode very rough until the old man emus went in and what a difference they made, the ride was supple. Yet to try out the suspension on the rough stuff, but the home made travel ramp illustrated the effects of changing the suspension geometry by 3inches with a shift in the rear axle. Spoke to Rod about an adjustable panhard rod and he quoted me 4 slabs!!! September 12 First up...the introWell, its taken a while to finally start to setup "kingsview alpaca's space". Obviously its not all about alpacas, its also about 4wding & camping (our outdoor passion) and other interesting experiences from our farm "Kingsview".
Time is of the essence nowadays with Lachlan now about to make his maiden voyage via his own two feet, he has shown all the hallmarks of walking and I don't think it will be long. He took two unaided steps today with success!
The drought took its toll over the recent summer/autumn period and after the rain over winter I am still sceptical of a broken drought. Our paddocks are already starting to dry off without much spring growth...all we can do wait and see.
Cheers
